One bed, going cheap to a good home!

Feel free to make an offer~

Not much blog writing, blog reading or crafting going on in my life at the moment, but plenty of packing, cleaning and unpacking. Actually, we still have plenty more unpacking to go, coupled with sorting and selling (let me know if you need anything for your home and we’ll probably have two for you to choose from) in order to create enough space to actually get to the crafting stuff (and my shoes).

I am relieved to report that as of Saturday, I finally have all my possessions in one location, and the keys of my pad are in the hands of my Property Manager, Alex (~giggle~ I feel very mature and very business savvy when I say that!). See Property ID 533322 for yourself here.

Sadly, to reach this point I had to miss S’n’B last week, but sometimes sacrifices are required. I instead attempted to satisfy my crafting urges with a paintbrush and cleaning products (not a great substitution I have to say).

With that accomplished, I’m finally indulging myself and am now stitching away on the last sleeve of my felted tweed cardi whilst watching the Oscars. (I did give momentary consideration as to whether I could make some reasonable headway on the jumper for Scott before his birthday… but I decided that: no, I can’t get a second sleeve and front and back completed in less than two weeks..).

Winding up

I'm moving in with my boyfriend. So I'm packing, and sorting and tossing out stuff, clearing cobwebs and finding new homes for things I don't need. It's actually quite refreshing and cleansing in some ways, and utterly exhausting in others. And for some reason in the midst of this I am still aquiring and collecting bits and pieces.

Such as this:

Unboxed-

This was my grandmother's wool winder, which Mum managed to dig up when searching for bits to go with the spinning wheel (which will also be joining me at my new residence at some point in the future), and I love the idea that I'm going to be using her things. It reminds me of the fact that she was the one who taught me how to knit.

Now I'm just hoping I'll be able to score a date with Mr Ashford like my good friend Alison...

I'm loosing the plot

Remember my veggie plot?

There is a tree lying down next to it at the moment. I know how it feels- I'm feeling exhausted myself, but I would have preferred it if it had decided to lie down somewhere other than on top of my tomatoes.

I suppose I should be thankful actually- I can actually get to my tomatoes and was able to break some smaller branches away. My friend Robyn can't even see her plot underneath all the foliage!

The tree is actually a massive mature tree- it must be well over 10m tall- which came down in the storms in Melbourne last week. The storms and drenching of water that came with it wreaked havoc with trees all over Melbourne, and the clean up, repairs and planting will take ages.

With a bit of luck by this weekend someone more equiped to do so will have removed the tree, and with a great deal more luck my 20cm eggplant will have survived and will be able to finish ripening.

But after that I will be calling it quits with the plot. Instead, I'm going to move into Scott's place and start digging up his dirt.... Veggie patch out the back, near the BBQ and new paving, under the shade of some new fruit trees, with a pond and fragrant garden out the front... well, I think daydreams go hand in hand with loosing the plot.

Same, same but different

And there I was thinking that the only things that have changed while I have been away are the Australian ABC TV's News set, the fact that half of our Marketing department have been "let go" and the Labor party aquired a new/old leader.

Not so! (drum roll please...)

Marta's Yarn has a NEW WEBSITE including on-line sales!

There you go- now those of you who don't drive past it twice a day can go shopping there any time! Have fun...

Now I'm it!

While I was away I got tagged. It wasn't appropriate to respond then- I couldn't recall what was in my CD collection and I had no idea what I had just heard, but now that I am back home, safely within earshot of my favourite radio station, I feel the time is right to respond.

Actually, given the questions below, I confess I have been hanging out for exactly the right moment, but the right moment seems to keep on slipping past and by the time I get to THAT question the song I have just heard won't be the one I wanted to post. Never mind, I am listening to Zan Rowe do her last ever show on the RRRrrrr's before she heads off to work at JJJ.

So, here goes:
1. Total amount of music files on your computer?
Not Much: 268MB. Put on when I first got the laptop and generally not listened to since!

2. CD you last bought?
Erica Pringle "A likely story". She's a friend of a friend and I bought the CD for the princely some of $10 at her privately produced CD launch at the Corner Hotel about a year ago. Hmmm that's a long time between purchases isn't it?

3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
This is THAT question. A snapshot in time. What did RRR broadcast just a few moments ago? Bugger- they didn't back announce and I must confess that I am appalling at remembering song titles, and performers, despite the fact that I can hear the tune clearly in my head. However with some mental effort and a quick Google I can confidently tell you: Electrelane “The Valleys”

4. 5 songs you often listen to, or which mean a lot to you
Another tricky question given the same problem mentioned above, coupled with the fact that I tend to listen to whole albums for their overall vibe, rather than specific songs. But selecting a few favourite albums from the CD collection, the following songs leap out (in no particular order):

- Blackeyed Susans “Apartment No.9” [Very hard to pick just one track from them, but the lyrics and singing have such a strong mood that this is an all time fave. I’ve loved this Melbourne band for years and Nick Snarsky’s voice is sooooooo good. Have seen them live many times over the last 15 years or so]

- Miles Davis “So What” from the album ”Kind of Blue” [I have a smattering of Jazz in the collection, and this gets regular airplay, particularly for dinner parties]

- Tex Perkins, Don Walker and Charlie Owen “What I done to her” [another sad tale, but I can’t help but be moved by it and hum along every time I hear it. I first heard this (self-titled) album at a friend's house when I was staying there recovering from illness 9 years ago. It was the only CD in the household's collection worth listening to, so I heard it on repeat about 20 times and now it's in my bones]

- Nick Drake “Things behind the sun” [I am almost forced to stand still when I hear this song. His music is incredible. I first heard this song on the radio whilst driving and it is the only time in my life I have actually rung up a radio station to find out the name and artist of a song. I simply knew having heard it once that I needed to have it at call whenever I wanted to hear it. I was so shocked when I read the CD liner notes to find out that he had died in 1974, and that I wouldn’t have the joy of hearing new compositions for years to come.]

- Mazzy Star “Disappear” from the Album “Among My Swan” [so languid and mellow- I find this album so soothing. It makes me want to melt into the sofa/bath (depending on where I am lying when I put it on)]

5. Who are you going to pass this on to, and why?
Eeek. I don’t know. I don’t really have anyone I can pass it to who I know hasn’t done it. I don’t have many friends with Blogs. If she had a blog, I’d pass it on to Janet, just because I’d love to hear her 5 favourite songs- her tastes are so broad I have no idea what she’s come up with, but I’d love to find out!.
