We've been harvesting from the veggie patch.

We've been eating different things for dinner.

We've been washing up with freshly knitted dishcloths.
We've also been doing lots of other things, but haven't been photographing them. More gardening, other house maintenance jobs that have been waiting to be done for way too long, relaxing in our freshly spruced up abode, plus one or two excursions away from home, preferably preceded by a little bit of a sleep in.
I hope that our return to the weekly routine next week doesn't hit us too hard.

Are the dishcloths actually pleasant to use? I haven't ever been able to get my head fully around them, despite having a skein of linen to make a supposedly superior washcloth.
ReplyDeleteHi Ingrid,
ReplyDeleteSorry I can't email you directly, however I have to say they are FANTASTIC to use. I love them.
I use mine strictly as dishcloths, for washing up and wiping up in the kitchen. I just throw them in the washing whenever I put a load through, and they dry out quite effectively between washes so I feel they are less bacteria laden than wet sponges or cloths. Although they're not abrasive, the texture is enough to get off almost all kitchen grime- for the tougher ones I just sprinkle on some Bicarb of Soda and that with the cotton cloth and perhaps a little soaking always does the trick. The only problem I have found is that when the yarn gets cut on a knife (as they invariably seem to do at some stage) you get a run in them, but I jsut carry on using them until they are more rag than cloth, and they last for at least a couple of years.
I don't know that I would want to use them as a washcloth for personal body washing though, unless you have something that stays soft with wear, which the cotton yarn doesn't seem to. Linen might be better on that score.
