I made this for C for Christmas, having seen this tutorial via Pinterest, and having chatted with S about the Lego bag he'd had as a child, the same as the one mentioned in the tutorial. Our Lego storage system was reaching capacity, and we wanted something quick and easy to unfurl or pack up, and easier to sort and rummage for pieces on.

I used a range of fabrics, all from the stash- mostly Ikea cotton and linens with some honeyed carrots too- and random pieced. The inside lining is a black and white cotton blend from Spotlight.
It worked really well, although I'm going to have to find some better eyelets as some have already pulled out. Despite my fears that I would like it more than C, he's pretty happy with it- more for what it enables him to do (ie play) rather than how it looks.

Now that's good.It looks like it might just do the job of keeping all those random pieces in approximately one place. ( Can you count the number of times you've trod on one of those primary coloured little buggers?)
ReplyDeleteTime for me to start preparing for next Christmas and three Lego-loving grandchildren
Thanks so much for this idea. I made mine from two 50" wide circles of curtain fabric from Spotlight at $2 metre.
ReplyDeleteI tried to make holes with the eyelet thingy but it was useless so I made 20 little loops instead and stitched them in place
I couldn't work out the slider bit so fed the cord through a used cotton reel and, voila,it was great.
Thanks again and, hopefully, many more from my daughter in law who constantly picks up bits of Lego from her 3 children.
Happy New Year.
So glad you liked this Maureen! Great idea to do loops instead of eyelets, and the cotton reel too. Hope they like it!
ReplyDeleteoh, I lost my comment I think.
ReplyDeleteWe need a room sized one!!
Thank you very much for the idea. I showed this to my mother and she made one for my yougest son. Now my hapy boy don't have any trouble to wonder from room to room with all his treasure (he has quite an impressive Lego collection) in a second.
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant (despite my belated comment). But more importantly, given I'm on a nightmarish carpet hunt: what is your carpet? Colour/shade? It is really very nice!
